Australian international award-winning burlesque sensation, Zelia Rose, returns home after headlining with Dita Von Teese to sell out shows throughout the USA in 2017 with an Australian tour confirmed for 15 February and 7 March 2018.
Hot off headlining three hugely successful back-to-back USA tours with burlesque impresario, Dita Von Teese, and to nightly standing ovations for Rose herself, Miss Burlesque Australia, Zelia Rose, 28, returns home, high-kicking straight back into performance work as diverse as her two decades long creative CV spanning dance, vaudeville, vocalist (Pop, Blues), modelling, fire performance and exquisite mesmerising tease, which has seen the US government deem ROSE as an artist of Extraordinary Ability.
“This (The Art of Teese tour) is something that I’m going to be talking about forever, obviously. I have so much appreciation for Dita. I never thought I’d be working with someone who is a huge source of inspiration to me and to millions!” says Rose.
And it’s only the beginning for Rose who has become such an integral part of the Von Teese touring family that she is booked to continue headlining with Dita through to 2020. Next up is Australia, from February 2018, with further USA tour dates before expanding into a planned European tour later in the year.
Zelia Rose joins Von Teese’s record-breaking tour with fellow headliners and stars in their own right, all handpicked by Dita, including 2015 RuPaul Drag Race winner, Violet Chachki, Dirty Martini, Ginger Valentine, Jett Adore, Gia Genevieve and of course Teese “the boss” herself. Dita and her core headliners have become a tight-knit tour de force in 2017, often performing in 1,000 plus seater, grand historic venues that haven’t seen big shows like this for years: Such as the recently refurbished The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and the Fillmore in San Francisco, Rose has had the opportunity to shimmy the same floor boards as many a star of previous eras including Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
It’s clear that Rose is not only liberated by being able to perform her extraordinary talent to huge and enthusiastic audiences on the other side of the world but is equally fascinated by the art, architecture and performance history contained in the venues and cities that she feels so blessed to temporarily inhabit. Confirm this by a scan of her Instagram: @zeliarose and www.zeliarose.com. Both showcase the breadth and depth of Zelia’s various sensibilities.
On days off from the tour, she can be seen deservedly resting poolside with her fellow performers, but also visiting art galleries, exploring the dance halls and performance areas of Harlem with the likes of Dandy Wellington and wandering around the DTLA historic district itself. Her gram also confirms that Zelia and Dita together attended the Women’s March in solidarity in 2017.
All in all, it’s been a dedicated road for Rose to get to this point internationally. A stunning woman of African-Spanish and Irish descent, she’s grown up in Australia and has been dancing consistently since the age of two.
Yet it’s refreshing and somewhat surprising to hear that Rose wasn’t a spotlight stage natural: “I was the shyest kid in the world, the kind that hides behind mum’s leg.”
Despite such shyness, Rose kept dancing: Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and didn’t stop. Then in 2014, when Rose was 24, a spotlight turned to her when she hands down won the country’s national burlesque competition and was crowned Miss Burlesque Australia.
Going on to Las Vegas in 2015, Rose won Best Debut at the International Burlesque Hall of Fame, where she competed and showcased her skills before the best burlesque performers and producers in the world. Wouldn’t you be nervous?
“I’m so lucky to do what I do. The energy that I get from doing this show (The Art of Teese tour) is major! I hope those who have seen it felt it too” says Rose.
Asked her thoughts on the upcoming The Art of Teese tour commencing in Australia, February 2018 Rose responds: “Turn up the heat! Hitting my home AUSTRALIA! I can’t wait to be part of this production again. I’m so grateful to be a part of this and I love and appreciate everyone involved.”
Deemed a performer of Extraordinary Ability by the USA government, Zelia Rose is a homegrown star on a vertical rise up and an international talent to watch.
